During the 1930′s many rich socialites went on safari in Africa and fell in love with elephants. They returned to fashionable New York and told their jewelry designers to make them pins, brooches, and hair-clips – all incorporating elephant designs. Those jewelry pieces are very collectible items today.
After they decorated themselves, those same rich socialites turned to their apartments and want to create the same exotic atmosphere that they fell in love with in Europe.
