Just about everyone wants to have at least one leather jacket or coat. Most also want it to be a high quality one. However not many know just what makes a leather jacket a quality one.

There are even many jackets out there that are fake leather, or ones called man made leather. They are the same, fake looking leather made from synthetic material and stamped with an embossing machine to look like leather grain.

A real leather jacket or coat will have a tag stating that it is real leather. If it’s very high quality it will even tell you what type of leather it is. Cow, pig and water buffalo hide is the most common types of leather for jackets and all make good quality ones.

Avoid the type that say patchwork, brick stone or looks like small pieces stitched together. These are very poor quality made from left over pieces of leather. They will fall apart fast and leak.

A good high quality leather coat will have a nice leather smell but not too strong. If it has a sharp or gasoline type of smell to it, do not buy it. Getting a good leather jacket can be hard but with practice you can get a great one for yourself.
