Pageants: Not for Everyone

Many girls and their moms enjoy doing pageants, but they’re not for everyone, especially when glitz pageants are involved. For one thing, the contestants have to be able to endure the makeup and hair sessions, the tanning sessions, and the manicure and pedicure sessions. They also have to be willing to take modeling lessons and spend time practicing at home. The kids might have to try on numerous dresses, bathing suits, and other apparel on a frequent basis. Obviously, not all kids are willing to go through all this just to compete in glitz pageants.

Another reason that pageants aren’t for everyone has to do with attitude. Girls and moms have to have the right attitude about competing in order to stay sane and happy. Some kids and some pageant moms just can’t take losing. And sooner or later, you’re going to lose. I don’t care how beautiful the child is, how amazing her dress is, or how well she does while on stage, the day will come when she doesn’t win. No one wins 100% of the time. Some girls go into a meltdown when they don’t win, and oftentimes, the moms are just as bad – maybe even worse. If you and your daughter can’t lose gracefully, pageants probably aren’t your best choice in hobbies.
