Southern Food: Pepper Pork
This is the southern food version of pepper steak. My family loves southern food, and we actually like this dish better than traditional pepper steak made with beef. Somehow, the flavors just seem to suit pork better. This is a great dish to serve over white or yellow rice.
Southern pepper pork recipe
What you’ll need:
- Four boneless pork chops or pork steaks
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup orange juice
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 medium onion
- 1 green bell pepper
- Fresh jalapeno peppers, to taste
- Cooking oil
- Black pepper
- Salt
Directions: Rinse pork and pat dry. Cut the meat into thin strips and place in a zippered food bag. To the bag, add soy sauce, orange juice, and garlic. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least two hours.
While the meat is marinating, prepare the vegetables. Peel the onion and dice it. Rinse the bell pepper and remove the seeds and ribs, and dice it. Do the same with the jalapeno peppers, but instead of dicing them, mince them.
Remove pork from marinade and pat dry. Heat oil in a wok or skillet and add pork strips. Cook over medium heat for five minutes, while stirring. Add onion and peppers and sprinkle mixture with black pepper and salt. Continue cooking and stirring until pork is cooked through.
